Corr. and Ampitiya Group Corr. Posts, Telecommunication and Upcountry Development Minister D. M. Jayaratne said present day politicians of the third world including Sri Lanka appear to be self motivated and power hungry instead of pursuing a common program for the development of the country. He said such countries have been eventually enslaved by more advanced countries. The Minister was addressing a meeting at the inauguration of a vocational training course held at Kandy Post Office Complex auditorium. The Minister said, the reason for all prevailing ills of the country was nothing but the wrong decisions, taken by politicians since 1948 itself. "It is of utmost importance even at this late stage to consider following a right path irrespective of political differences", the Minister stressed. "Cabinet has approved the move to establish an Upcountry Development Authority and it is now under the consideration of the Attorney General. Once when that authority is established it would resolve to a great extent, the unemployment problem in the area", he said. Secretary to the Ministry C. Maliyadda, and the Director of National Apprenticeship Technical Training Authority B. H. S. Suraweera also spoke. |
