IA proposals should not be taken up in isolation Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle said the Government is of the opinion that the Interim Administration (IA) proposals should not be taken up in isolation during future talks between the Government and the LTTE. At a media briefing at the Information Department, the Minister said yesterday the Government considers the LTTE's proposals for an Interim Administration should be discussed based on a final solution when peace talks resume. "The LTTE has conveyed to us their stance that the Interim Administration proposals should be the basis for future talks. The matter is been discussed between the two parties and no final decision has been taken yet," he added. The Minister said during the Prime Minister's visit to India, the Indian Government expressed the view that the IA should be taken up only in the discussions for a final solution. In response to queries on the Indian request to handover LTTE Leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, the Minister said the Indian Government assured the matter will not be pressed at this point because of the ongoing peace process. |
