Flood situation worsens in B'desh

Dhaka, Monday (PTI) At least ten people have reportedly died in Bangladesh following torrential rains that continued to lash parts of the country aggravating the grim flood situation and affecting a large number of people in addition to causing extenisve damage to crops and infrastructure.

Three people were reportedly killed in Chittagong alone where heavy rainfall had triggered landslides.

Reports said flood situation in Sylhet district worsened further leaving around 70 per cent of the district's total area inundated and bringing normal life to a standstill. Situation in Sunamganj district also turned worse with total disruption of road traffic.

Many people abandoned their inundated houses and took shelter on high-land embankments, which, however, do not appear to be a reliable option considering the flood situation which is worsening day by day.
