Equality and power-sharing as the basis of peace

Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Lecture by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on April 23, 2002 in New Delhi.

His untimely death was undoubtedly a loss to the Congress; but it was very much more than that - Scindia's death was a loss to the polity itself, especially in these distressing times when a dismal mixture of mediocrity and manipulative dexterity seems essential for political success. Scindia represented a rapidly vanishing face of South-Asian politics.
