by Florence Wickramage The Lanka Rain Water Harvesting Forum will conduct a multi disciplinary symposium on "Rain Water Harvesting For Urban Areas" tomorrow at the Sri Lanka Institute of International Relations in Colombo. The Symposium aims to present research, practices and experience on Urban Rain Water Harvesting and to promote rain water as an option for domestic water supply in urban areas. Papers in several categories addressing the social, technical, economic, climatic aspects will be presented. The subjects dealt with are "Rain water harvesting in Urban areas: Potential in Sri Lanka; Experience in Coastal cities in Chennai, India; Designs (Technology, Economics, Architectural); Case studies from Kohuwela, David Peiris Co; and Water Quality: Experience from Kandy, People's perception". The Symposium is sponsored by the German Appropriate Technology Exchange Small-scale Fund of GTZ Germany. The Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Symposium will be the Minister of Urban Development and Water Supply Dinesh Gunawardena. |
