Egodawita The Archaeological Department Excavators who were engaged in restoration work on the historical Purana Raja Maha Viharaya of Uda-aludeniya, Udunuwara, in the course of excavation have un-earthed 120 priceless bronze Buddha Statues, two bronze caskets and an ancient "makara thorana" from a small dilapidated dagoba, on June 19. Udaaludeniya Raja Maha Viharaya is a place of Buddhist worship more than 400 years old which had gone in to decay by neglect.The Archaeological finds were stored safely at the Cultural Fund Bureau of Kandy which handles the restoration work of the Purana Raja Maha Viharaya. |
