Promises on target

Information and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera said yesterday the
UPFA Government during the last 60 days of its rule had honoured its
promises given to the people by embarking upon a rapidly progressive
program to rebuild the nation.
SLMC no appendage of UNP, says Hakeem

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) is not in the appendage of the
United National Party, said SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem. Hakeem told a press
conference at the Galle Face Hotel, yesterday, the SLMC was prepared to
support the Government if their key issues fulfilling the aspirations of
the Muslim community were met.
Govt. welcomes Opp. memo to Speaker, would have signed if asked
As UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya announced at a press briefing
yesterday that 114 members of the opposition who constituting a majority
members of Parliament were presenting a memorandum to the Speaker calling
for the upholding of the dignity of Parliament JVP Propaganda Secretary MP
Wimal Weerawansa on behalf of the Freedom Alliance Government welcomed the
move and said that if the Government too had been requested to sign the
memorandum they would have willingly done.
Opposition Media Unit Chief sacked
The Opposition Media Unit Chief Saman Athaudahetti has been sacked from
his post as he has not been of any use to boost the image of Opposition
and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, according to informed sources.
