The special police team investigating the incident in Parliament on June 8 on the direction of IGP Indra de Silva, said yesterday that the statements of three Buddhist monks sent to the Attorney General had mentioned names of six Parliamentarians including a Minister and a Deputy Minister.
Earlier, the three statements of Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera, Ven. Kolonnawe Sumangala Thera and Ven. Akmeemana Dayarathana Thera were forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice.
Investigations are conducted by Western Province South DIG K.P.P. Pathirana. His special police team had recorded statements of over 100 persons including a number of parliamentarians.
Investigators have not yet collected the two injured Bhikkus' medical reports. Specialist Dr. Vajira Tennakoon who is treating Ven. Sumangala Thera had indicated that Ven. Sumangala Thera's abdomen had been injured.
Investigators had obtained a video tape in connection with the June 8 incident in Parliament from Parliament officials and had requested to the private electronic media to hand over their video tapes to the team for further investigations.
Earlier, the Speaker and the Attorney General had directed police to inquire into the incident and forward a report.
