Hartal over scribe's killing; shops closed in Batticaloa

All shops were closed while transport services came to a standstill in Batticaloa and some key towns in the North and East yesterday as the public staged a hartal over the killing of senior journalist Iyathurai Nadesan, sources from the North and East said yesterday.
