The LTTE yesterday accused cadres loyal to its breakaway leader Karuna of killing seven of its cadres in Batticaloa on Sunday after making a complaint to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission.
The SLMM Deputy Chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News last night that the SLMM received the complaint from the LTTE Political Wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan around noon yesterday.
"We do not have any confirmation about the incident since we have not seen the dead cadres", Haukland added.
"We will be commencing our investigations on the complaint soon", Haukland added.
Haukland said the Thamilselvan has stated in his complaint that Karuna's cadres have gone to the LTTE areas and gunned down those cadres.
According to pro-LTTE Tamil Net website the incident had taken place around 11.30 pm on Sunday at Ponnaankaanichenai in Batticaloa, a place close to Vavunativu.
"Four of the murdered cadres were invalids", the Tamil Net said.
According to SLMM this was the first serious incident which took place in the North East following recent battles in Batticaloa between the LTTE and its breakaway faction.
Meanwhile, a suspected LTTE cadre blew himself up when a bomb believed to have been attached to his body exploded during the early hours of yesterday at Polattapitiya, Kurunegala, Police said.
Police had also found 2 1/2 kg claymore bomb, a hand grenade and a forged passport of the suspect alongside the dead body. The bomb most probably exploded accidentally. According to the Kurunegala HQI, K.D.A. Serasingha the explosion had taken place at around 3.30 am in Polattapitiya.
Police suspect that the LTTE cadre identified as "Thuraisingham" had been carrying a bomb with other explosives when it had suddenly exploded. "The body was badly mutilated," the HQI said.
It was also revealed that the 43-year-old suspect was from Batticaloa. Special Squads from the Terrorist Investigation Unit (TIU) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were assigned to carry out investigations into the explosion.
