Freedom Polls Watch laments World Bank Director's comments

The Freedom Polls Watch regrets the World Bank Country Director in Sri Lanka Peter Harold making politically partisan comments on issues related to the internal political matters of Sri Lanka to a Sri Lankan daily on Saturday.

Harold has made these comments without possibly studying the Freedom Alliance manifesto, attempting to imply that the SLFP and the JVP did not have a homogeneous economic policy, whereas the Freedom Alliance Manifesto was the best testimony for the two parties manifesting a clear agreed policy framework on all issues, Polls Watch Convenor M. M. Zuhair said yesterday.

It would have been best if he had avoided altogether expressing partisan political views at a time of elections.

Harold must by now, be convinced that it would have been more appropriate if he had referred to political instability and the conflict between the executive and legislature continuing if the UNP was elected with a majority at the current elections, the Freedom Polls Watch stated.
