Journalists trained on election reporting

Sri Lankan journalists are participating in training workshops designed to better equip them for election coverage.

The Sri Lankan Environmental Journalists Forum (SLEJF), is organising six workshops on elections reporting in four cities the SLETF said in a press release yesterday.

The three-hour training sessions are being conducted as Sri Lanka prepares for parliamentary elections, set for April 2. According to SLEJF, the sessions are designed to offer the participating journalists new ideas on how to cover the upcoming elections. They focus on reporting the issues, solutions and facts, offering an overview of citizen-based election coverage instead of an agenda set by the politicians.

Knight International Press Fellow Paula Green, a New York City-based freelance, is leading the workshops. She uses tip sheets, exercises and examples to help participants strengthen their election reporting skills.
