Speaking at a ceremony to present free mobile phones to The Finance Company fixed deposit holders he said that mobile phones are fast becoming a basic requirement.

Very soon the lap top computers used by businessmen will disappear and the mobile phone will take its place," he said.

The mobile phones would be used to check the bank balance, shop at supermarkets and even buy a car. This was the reason they decided to tie up with Mobitel to provide 500 phones to their fixed deposit holders.

Chief Marketing Officer Mobitel Kapila Chandrasekera said that they would introduce a new service next week, which would revolutionise the banking industry. One of the key advantages of Mobitel is that any customer could add any of the advanced functions over the phone. "We do not want the customers to come to us for each value addition service," he said.

The Mobitel phones featured the latest Mobitel GSM packages to The Finance Company's long standing fixed deposit holders. The Finance Company, a member of Ceylinco Consolidated has been in business for 64 years.

The Finance Company, a part of Ceylinco Consolidated is one of Sri Lanka's most diversified indigenous conglomerates. It is Sri Lanka's premier and the pioneer finance company with market leadership in many products. It is also the seventh company to be incorporated in the country. The company serves the interests of a large number of customers in the city and rural areas, including the North East.

The customers who have been selected to benefit from this special offer are the company's fixed deposit holders.

Each selected customer will receive a mobile phone with a Mobitel GSM special corporate package. The subscribers will be given a 64K SIM card that will offer user-friendly menu-driven information services ranging from financial information and other features. The unique feature of the 64K SIM card is the ability to update the SIM card menu over the air.

Thus Mobitel subscribers could manage the services that they wish to access and Mobitel would be able to send new services to their subscribers without the subscriber having to change their SIM card to visit Mobitel.

"Subscribers could update their phones, which will enable them to utilise Mobitel's Edge service, the next generation near 3G GPRS service and Mobitel's user-friendly MMs service," Chandrasekera said.

The Finance Company has the largest fixed deposit base among all finance companies with a base of Rs. 11.4 billion with 40,000 customers. Many of these customers are second-generation customers whose long-standing loyalty was achieved through superior service and innovative rewards.

This present gift of 5,000 phones is one such reward for loyalty.

The Finance Company offers highly competitive rates for fixed deposit holders and in addition is the only finance company in Sri Lanka to offer a Visa credit card.

The company also promotes Golden Key Privilege Cards, over the counter, loan facilities and special rates for senior citizens. - (S.S.)
