Jaffna Special correspondent "The leaders of the two main political parties in this country have failed to find a solution to the problems that affect the different racial and religious groups in the country. All ethnic groups in this country should live in amity and peace. This is our prayer. We decided to enter the fray to bring about a reformation where the inhabitants of this country could live in communal amity and religious unity", said Ven. Vitharandeniya Mettananda Thera, the first candidate in the list of nominations for the general election submitted by Jathika Hela Urumaya party at the Jaffna election office. He said that this country cannot be truncated as the North, South, East and West. Our election propaganda will be based on an undivided Sri Lanka. We will not stick posters or hold political meetings in Jaffna. We have come here to embrace the Tamils into our fold. We are fielding candidates in all there districts, the Thera said. When asked whether they would lend support to LTTE he said that the LTTE should lay down their arms and withdraw the demand for Eelam. Thereafter, the leaders of this country should sit with the LTTE on the same table and come to amicable terms. The negotiations should not be prolonged and solutions should be found without delay. |
