An assessment of Sri Lanka's electoral system by Dr. Chandra Dolawatte The right to elect as well as the right to be elected should be
effectively assured to all citizens of the country. Hence the restrictions
in the existing electoral law in this regard should be removed. Any
registered member of a political party should be accorded the right to
seek election to political office, if he or she so desires to do so,
