Under-17 Asia Cup : Mathew plays captain's innings
Skipper Angelo Mathew hit a sparkling century (131) to guide Sri Lanka to a convincing 90 runs win over UAE in a match of the under 17 Asia Cup played in India yesterday.
Sri Lanka's total of 254-9 in 45 overs was based largely on Mathew's innings. The second highest score was only 27 from Madava Warnapura. UAE were restricted to a total of 164-6 in 45 overs with spinners Sachith Pathirana (3 for 36 off 9 overs) and Warnapura (2 for 17 off 5 overs) doing the damage.
Sri Lanka's next match is against Bangladesh on Thursday. On Monday, Sri Lanka won their opening match of the competition beating Saudi Arabia by seven wickets.
