Post and Telecommunication Minister Imithiasz Bakeer Markar, opened the 95th new Communication Cafe at Karaliyadda New Town Post Office, Teldeniya, modernized at a cost of two hundred and fifty thousand rupees last Friday. Addressing the gathering after the opening ceremony, Minister Bakeer Markar stated that he has sought the Treasury approval to recruit 1500 postal peons to deliver postal articles in various parts of the island and also to confirm in service the 194 sub-post masters recruited in the year 2000. The Postal Department which is now a privatized institution is being run as a profit earning concern without burdening the Treasury even by one cent. It has fulfilled 90 per cent of the employees' demands.Its service to the masses has improved owing to the regular and punctual attendance of its employees who are now satisfied with their lot in the department. May the existing differences between the Government and the Executive come to an amicable settlement and enable the Government to resume the peace process pursued by the President and the Prime Minister, said Minister Bakeer Markar. Ven. Poddalgoda Sri Chandananda Nayaka Thera, the Chief Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka of Medadumbara, Teldeniya UNP Chief Organizer Mahinda Wijesiri, Medadumbara Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Chandrasena Ekanayake and Post Master General Navin Senadheera also spoke. UNP General Secretary Senarat Kapukotuwa attended the occasion. |
