by Ranga Jayasuriya Scandinavian truce monitors investigating an alleged LTTE firing position in the Government controlled area in Pullimalai, Batticaloa said yesterday they need more time for investigation. "We need more time for dialogue with the two parties (Security forces and the LTTE) before making a ruling," SLMM acting chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News. Haukland said the camp was in an area claimed by both the security Forces and the LTTE. "Demarcation lines in the East (between the Government and the LTTE controlled areas) are not much clear, making the work bit conflicted," he said. Haukland said the alleged LTTE firing position has been built about 50 meters from a nearby LTTE camps. "Any way, no new constructions are allowed under the Truce Agreement. So this need to be looked into". "I am confident that this will be settled soon," Haukland said. Earlier Scandinavian monitors investigating a complaint by the Security Forces and police about an alleged LTTE bunker in the Government controlled area, said it was a firing position and not a bunker. A spokesman for the SLMM Batticaloa office said a report on the alleged LTTE build-up had been sent to the headquarters after a fact finding mission by the local monitors. |
