The issue of a licence to the LTTE Peace Secretariat has been challenged in the Court of Appeal by Member of Parliament Janaka Bandara Tennekoon. It has been challenged on the basis that it is a violation of Section 44 of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Act and also a violation of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act. When the case came up before Court, Senior Counsel for the petitioner S. S. Sahabandu, PC informed court that he was seeking to add the new Secretary of the Ministry of Mass Communication Thilak Ranaviraja and the new Minister of Mass Communication the President who would be represented by the Attorney General according to the provisions of the Constitution Article 35 (3). Justice P. Wijeratne granted time for the petitioner to amend his petition. S. S. Sahabandu PC, Ruwana Rajapakse and Champani Padmasekera instructed by Keerthi Sigera appeared for the petitioner. |
