NE referendum postponed

The President signed the relevant gazette notification, postponing the referendum on 6th November and it was published in the government gazette on 10th November, says a press release issued by Director General (Media) of the Presidential Secretariat.

All political parties and people's organisations in the Eastern Province had appealed to the President to postpone the referendum at this juncture, it further said.

Please help this infant

Seven month old Pavithra Swarnamali of E-48, Kauulla, Sansungama, Hingurakgoda is having a hole in the heart. She is the seond child of Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Ratnayake.

Dr. K. Prasad of the Appolo Hospital, Colombo has advised that the infant undergo urgent Toral Correction of the TOF. The operation will cost Rs. 310,000.

Their first child also died due to the same sickness four months ago, the father of the child, S. G. Ratnayake said.

The paretns of the child appeal to the public to help them save the child. All donations should be deposited at the Bank of Ceylon, Hingurakgoda Branch on Account Number 01-0392007.

Ananda Colours Nite

The 'Colours Nite 2003' awards presentation ceremony of Ananda College, Colombo organised by its Prefects Guild will be held at the Schools Moore Hall on November 25 at 4.30 p.m. Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara will be the chief guest. Principal B.A. Abeyratne will also be present.

German cruise liner here

A vessel carrying 850 passengers will be docking in at Queen Elizabeth Bay Colombo Harbour on Saturday at 0630 hours. The vessel Aidacara is arriving from Germany. Hemtours (Pte) Ltd has been appointed as the groundhandler and Ceyline Agencies as the local shipping agent. This is seen as a vote of confidence in the local tourism industry, a Hemtour spokesman said.
