Lanka tourism and tea promotional week in UAE

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi-U.A.E. had recently organized a weeklong event to promote Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.

Two stalls one to promote our Cultural Heritage and tourism and the other one to promote Sri Lanka Tea were set up.

The event ran from October 19 to 25 starting from 5.30 pm. to 10 pm.

At the first stall video clips entitled "Sri Lanka - A land like no other" containing Sri Lanka's natural scenic beauty and the pictures of most attractive sites and sounds were played in a broad TV screen. Tourism promotional brochures both in Arabic and English were distributed to the visitors along with a CD that contained similar features. Pictures of sites of cultural heritage like the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Citadel, the Kandy Perahera ancient Buddhist Dagobas and architectural sites and pictures of golden sand beaches. To crown this particular stall there were a display of Sri Lankan Cultural Heritage Artifacts like Getabera, Udukku, (Traditional Drums) Vesmuhuna, (Masks) Mulandhum (Traditional dress of bridegrooms) Sesatha and the Polthel pahana (Oil lamp) etc.

The second stall which was meant for promotion of world renowned Sri Lankan Tea (Ceylon Chai), instantly brewed was served to the visitors with special Lankan delicacies. Varieties of Sri Lankan Tea packets also were displayed along with pamphlets on tea and the method of brewing it.

More than three thousand visitors including locals, and expatriates, mainly westerners and Middle Eastern Nationals visited the stalls. Several visitors expressed their willingness to travel Sri Lanka during their holidays. Several businessmen who visited the stall and who wanted to explore possibility of importing tea from Sri Lanka were provided with the required information.

The visitors not only enjoyed a cup of Sri Lankan tea along with traditional short eats but also got an opportunity to participate in a free raffle draw the results of which will be announced along with the Liwa centers grand raffle draw results. The winner is to be awarded a free air round trip ticket to Sri Lanka-A land like no other.

Ambassador Lalith Hettiarachchi and Madam Hettiarachhi Were the chief guests.
