Jayasekera, Trincomalee Correspondent A discussion to create a peaceful environment for the people in the Trincomalee district to live without fear and carry out their day- to-day activities without hindrance in the future took place at Kaddaiparichan between the Army and the LTTE arranged by Norwegian facilitators. The discussion was attended by Divisional Commander in Trincomalee Major General Sunil Tennakoon and Brigade Commander in Trincomalee Brigadier M. Zahir while Trincomalee District LTTE Military Wing leader Paduman and Political Wing Leader Thilak participated on behalf of LTTE. The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) was represented by Deputy Head of District Abdel Burkan and Kurt Spur. The discussion which lasted for almost two hours centered on cultivation, trade and other activities such as collecting firewood and sand etc and the villagers' free-movement. Paduman undertook to provide all facilities for the people to attend to their work without any obstacles. It was also agreed that the LTTE and Army will jointly take steps to promote and maintain peace and harmony in the district. Paduman admitted that the LTTE did not have any dispute with the Army in the district and undertook to advise the Tamils to be calm and help people of other communities to attend to the daily needs without any impediment. The discussion took place in the no man area in Kaddaiparichan under a tent erected by the LTTE. |
