The Social Welfare Ministry provided relief and resources worth Rs. 3 million for the needy people at Kinniya during the ministry's mobile service held recently, a Social Welfare Ministry spokesman said.

He said that the mobile service was held at Al-Aksha Vidyalaya, Kinniya. The ministry provided wheelchairs, clutches, sewing machines, beds for the hospital, water tanks, housing assistance for disabled persons, water pumps, educational equipment for schoolchildren, aid for the visually handicapped persons and funds for road development.

The ministry conducted several mobile services in the North-East region including Jaffna. A large amount of relief and resources were provided during those mobile services for the people affected by the war.

Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Samaraweera said that the people in the North-East region have lived in relative peace in the past two years. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's Government does not believe in war. Therefore it will continue peace talks in order to achieve lasting peace.

Trincomalee district MP M. A. M. Maharoof, Social Welfare Ministry Senior Assistant Secretary Basil Fernando, Department Heads and several other officials were also present.
