| News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Probe into PM's poster: Police looking for red van, question over 30 by Sarath Malalasekera Detectives probing into the sudden appearance of posters carrying the picture of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Colombo city walls have come across information leading to the identification of the vehicle in which the posters were transported. Two special Police teams, the Intelligence Bureau and Colombo Crime Division (CCD) have been deployed by IGP T. Anandaraja to investigate how the posters of which the Premier was not aware came to be printed. "We are looking for a red van which is alleged to have transported the posters," Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage who is directing the investigations said. The special Police teams led by CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda are investigating to trace the persons involved in the matter. Over 30 persons have already been questioned by the investigators to ascertain who pasted the posters. Some are living in the Kollupitiya Police area. Earlier the IGP directed DIG Bodhi Liyanage to deploy two special teams to trace the culprits responsible for pasting the posters and submit a report to him within three days. Earlier the Government instructed the IGP to investigate who is responsible for publishing posters carrying the picture of the Premier. DIG Liyanage said that he had instructed the CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda to conduct investigations to ascertain who printed this poster and take them into custody irrespective of their position. The special police team will also probe the motive behind the display of the Premier's poster without his knowledge. UNP General Secretary Senarath Kapukotuwa said that this poster was a malicious attempt on the part of some conspirators who are intent on bringing the Government into disrepute. |
