by Florence Wickramage Educational lectures and the launch of an explanatory handbook on the Montreal Protocol and the launching of a special Web site will be among special events organised by the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry to mark the International Ozone Day, today Tuesday 16th September. The national celebrations organised by the Ozone Unit of the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry to be held at the National Youth Services Council Centre (NYSC) at Maharagama will be under the patronage of the Environment and Natural Resources Minister Rukman Senanayake. A special lecture on the theme "the Importance of preserving the Ozone Layer and the health problems which could arise by the depletion of the ozone layer will be delivered by Dr. Kanthi Ariyaratne. Around 1500 trainees of the NYSC and schoolchildren will participate at the national celebrations. Dr. W.L. Sumathipala and the Chairman, the Director General of NYSC will be among special guests. A special highlight of the occasion will be a special donation to the NYSC of a Rs. 10,000 worth consignment of CFC free new Electrical Equipment, Machinery and Apparatus by Marco Gonsales, Secretary General of the International Ozone Secretariat who is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka to grace the National Ozone Celebrations. |
