Minister commended for Beruwala Road Week Wadduwa special correspondent Members of the Urban Council, Beruwala thanked the Minister of Mass Communication Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, the people and the officers of the Urban Council for the cooperation extended to achieve success in the Road Week held recently. The Road Week was held to renovate roads in the Beruwala UC administrative area. Mazahim Mohammed the chairman of the UC Beruwala presided over the meeting held at the UC auditorium. The chairman said, the "Road Week" ended successfully in the Beruwala UC administrative area due to the cooperation extended by the people, the officers attached to the UC and Members of Parliament in the area. "I personally thank them irrespective of all differences, for their support, the chairman said. "Further the UC should also be grateful to the Minister of Mass Communication Imthiaz Bakeer Markar who named the 'Road Week' and for the financial assistance given to achieve best results." Provincial Council members A. M. Yusuf, Jayantha Abeygunawardhana and Dhammika Handuwala had given Rs. 50,000 each for the 'Road Week'. The UC should extend thanks to them too. Ackland Fernando (Independent) said that there were some more roads to be renovated despite the Road Week. The Chairman said, "All the problems of the members would be solved soon. I have suggested to the Minister of Mass Communication to name an Environmental Week." There is the problem of mosquitoes and stray dogs in the urban area. It is essential that the environment should be kept free from garbage. I have also proposed to held a "Health Week", he said. |
