The Colombo Municipal Council yesterday commenced its crack down on rate defaulters within the CMC limits. Here on the orders of the Municipal Commissioner a home down Ward place is being seized. The raiding party closed in on the house to the accompaniment of drum beats in the hoary old custom. A total of 613 houses and business premises were seized by the raiding team led by Chief Revenue Officer T. A. Piyadasa. Also in the picture are Accountant(tax) K. 550 additional policemen for East

In a move to strengthen security in the East, the Government has instructed the Police Department to recruit 500 Reserve Police Constables and 50 Reserve Sub Inspectors immediately.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has agreed to strengthen security in the East when he met the Port and Rehabilitating Minister and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader Rauff Hakeem on Monday night, Minister Hakeem told the Daily News yesterday.
