15th session of Inter Governmental Group on tea

The 15th session of the Inter Governmental Group (IGG) on tea began at the BMICH on Monday. Plantation Minister Lakshman Kiriella presided. Thirty-four countries and 116 agents are participating in the sessions which will continue till August 20. Here Minister Krill, Chairman, Tea Secretariat, Rome, David Halad and Secretary, Maslan Joshi, Caiso Chang, FAO’s David Stricker at the inauguration.

Govt will not withdraw import tariffs on agro-based products

The government under no circumstance will withdraw the import tariffs on agro based products which have been imposed to safeguard the local farmer as long as the American and European farmers are protected by their governments Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake told representatives of the International Monetary Fund at a meeting recently.
