by Ranil Wijayapala and Trincomalee correspondent A senior official from the Criminal Investigation Department had been dispatched to Trincomalee on Friday under the directive of IGP T.E. Anandarajah to probe into the killing of two Muslim youth at Chelvanayakampuram, Uppuveli on Wednesday night. A group of Police officers led by ASP Clement Silva commenced investigations into the killing of the two Muslim youth allegedly by the LTTE. The Police team has been tasked to submit a report on the incident within four days. The two youth killed in this incident has been identified as employees of the Trincomalee harbour. Police investigations are now focused on the missing motorcycle in which the two youth had travelled on the night of their killing. They are also investigating as to why the two youth had gone to that area with a large sum of money (Rs.80,000) in possession. The local Police curfew was imposed in Muttur area on Thursday night to prevent any emerging violent situation in the area. Additional Police teams and Army personnel were patrolling the area to ensure that law and order is prevailed. Minister Rauff Hakeem who visited the area on Thursday following the incident requested the law enforcement authorities to take immediate action to arrest the perpetrators. |
