'Lak
Daruwo' to assist underprivileged children
Attanagalla special correspondent 'Lak Daruwo' (Children of Sri Lanka), a charity organisation of Sri Lankan children living in the USA has undertaken the task of rendering continuous assistance to the underprivileged children in Sri Lanka. According to Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Thera, chief Sanghanayake, Siyane Sivu Korale and Viharadipathi, Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya the organisation based in Housten Buddhist Viharaya in Texas, in the USA and headed by Nuwan Samaranayake and Mohan Rodrigo, has already commenced numerous programs to provide school supplies and uniform material for needy schoolchildren. One of the largest projects ever undertaken by this charity was the supply of school bags, exercise books, and uniform material and other clothing to all 500 students of Sirisanghabo Daham Pasala, Attanagalla. The charity is currently in the process of supplying computers to rural schools, enabling rural poor children to get closer to the modern technology, Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Thera said. He also said, the charity organisation had plans to offer scholarships for underprivileged students. Funds for these projects are the proceeds of musical programs conducted by 'Lak Daruwo' Sri Lankan children living in Texas, USA, the Thera added.
