Maskeliya group correspondent P. Chandrasekaran, Minister of Community Development, Deputy Minister of Irrigation and Water Management and President of Up-Country People's Front has invited all political parties and their Members of Parliament to give their fullest support to the Citizenship Act for Stateless Persons and it will be brought to the Parliament within a day or two. He stated further this Citizenship problem has become a very long one, that has not been finalised yet. As a result most of the Stateless persons living in Sri Lanka face many problems. After the Sirima-Shastri Pact of 1962, J. R. Jayewardene-Indra Gandhi Pact and the Indo-Sri Lanka Pact with the Indian Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi, the stateless problem has not been solved. The time has come to get it solved once and for all. Therefore, I call upon every parliamentarian including EPRLF, TELO and other North-East Parliamentarians to give their support to the Bill in the Parliament. |
