Will the Bens maintain top spot by Chris Dhambarage The Milo Schools 'D' division league table leaders St. Benedict's College will be hoping to consolidate their position when they take on Science College, Mount Lavinia in their inter school rugby encounter at Longden Place today. The Benedictines are currently heading the Milo 'D' division league points table with a total of 12.00 points having notched up three good victories over St. Anne's College Kurunegala (17-8), Richmond College Galle (10-0) and Sri Sumangala MV Kandy (22-11). Their only defeat in the tournament was against Royal Panadura where they lost 3-27. Science College are currently placed second in the Milo 'D' division league points table having collected a total of 8.50 points. They defeated Royal Panadura (17-0) and Sri Sumangala MV Kandy (46-3) before going down to St. Anne's College Kurunegala 7-12 in a close encounter. Science College of course have the advantage of having played only three games so far but both teams are level on the number of tries with 11 each. DSS clash with Mahanama Meanwhile D. S. Senanayake College look set to register their third win in the Milo Schools 'C' division league tournament when they meet Mahanama MV in their fixture at Wijerama Mawatha today. D. S. Senanayake are currently placed fourth in the points table but now they have a very good chance of moving further up by piling up a big score against the weak Mahanama outfit. D. S. Senanayake have two victories to their credit and have obtained a total of 8.00 points ahead of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala and Nalanda. Joes favoured to win St. Joseph's College will be hoping to maintain their impressive record in the current season when they confront St. Sylvester's College Kandy in their Milo 'B' division league rugby tournament match at Bogambara today. The Josephians produced their best performance last week to hold the strong Anandians to a 13 all draw - a result which threw the 'B' division league tournament wide open. Now they have a real chance of challenging the two top teams in the league as they make their final appearance before taking on the traditioanl rivals St. Peter's College in the Battle of the Saints encounter in two week's time. |
