Lalkantha declared yesterday that the coalition between the SLFP and the JVP may become a reality or it may not happen. "We are the JVP and not the Communist Party or the LSSP who formed an alliance with the SLFP only to languish in the corridors while SLFP party men conducted discussions in the main hall," he said. "Our lack of good faith in Chandrika is the cause of the delay in signing the MoU between the JVP and the SLFP". MP K.D.Lalkantha is also the General Secretary of All Island Trade Unions Federation. He made these comments at the Annual Convention of the All Island Local Government Servants' Association which he chaired at the Public Library Auditorium, Colombo.. The Annual Convention was held on the theme "Array of Local Government Employees to protest against the deprivation of workers' rights and against the privatization of public institutions within the Unitary State of Sri Lanka". The MP further said that the JVP was not greedy for positions and Ministerial Portfolios. "We cannot solve problems by smuggling wreaths and coffins into the Parliament building." According to Lalkantha the SLFP ever since Chandrika's Leadership as well as the UNP ever since the JR leadership were full of corruption if not all at least by some of their membership. Our endeavour today is to build up a strong and united labour force amalgamating employees of all the sectors including the local government employees, Railway Employees and Health workers etc. Today 115 organizations are with us brushing aside all manner of political influences, stated Lalkantha. All Island Local Government Employees Union Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe, All Island Railway Employees' Union Secretary Sumathipala Manawadu and Lanka Guruseva Sangamaya Organizing Secretary Dhammika Alahapperuma were among the others who spoke. |
