Matara central correspondent Dry rations, milk foods, biscuits, plastic basins and jugs, school books etc. were recently distributed among 2,600 families in the Matara district. This was done on the basis of priority lists furnished by the Gramaseva Niladaries of the respective areas. Gift parcels were distributed at Bauddha Madyastanaya (Buddhists Centre) at Station Road, Matara. It was organised jointly by the incumbent of Thapodanarama, Mt. Lavinia, Anunayake of Amarapura Saddamma Nikaya ,- Ven. Rajakeeya Panditha Talalle Dhammaloka Thera and the Head of Matara Buddhists Centre Jothisasthra-Visarada - Ven. Kamburupitiye Wimala Thera.
President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was informed of the donation and on her request, I undertook to distribute the donation among the most deserved families. Members of Human Disaster Management Council Mrs. E. M. P. Karunarathna, Samantha Abeykoon, E. A. Nimal and Leelaratna Perera were present on the occasion. To make this program a success, the cooperation extended by Ven. Kamburupitiye Wimala Thera, Assistant Secretary of Matara Divisional Secretariat Thusitha, HQI, Matara Police Kottearachchi and Grama Niladaries of the Matara division is commendable. I thank them wholeheartedly. Last year too, Ven. Hsing Yun Nayake Thera donated 12,000 US dollars to provide relief to the drought affected people of Moneragala. That donation too was disbursed through the Sarvodaya Movement. I wish long life to Grand Master Hsing Yun Nayake Thera. |
