Kelaniya group correspondent Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) donated 4,000 bedkits worth 8 million to the Rotary Club of Kelaniya to be distributed to the needy children in Sri Lanka. The SCAW is a non-profitable Canadian organisation that distributes bed kits to children from underdeveloped and developing countries. The objective of this organisation, with overseas volunteer organizations is to help the children of their country. As such this year SCAW has selected the Rotary Club of Kelaniya, as their overseas volunteer organization to distribute 4,000 bed kits to the needy children in Sri Lanka, said Kelaniya Rotary Club President Sarath Amerasekera on Wednesday. He said that the Rotary Club of Kelaniya has arranged the bed kits to boys and girls ranging from 6 to 12 years. Co-ordinating Porject Chairman Chandra Fernando said that the Rotary Club of Kelaniya with the assistance of other Rotary Clubs will distribute these bed kits in Kelaniya, Biyagama, Wattala, Kolonnawa, Pamunugama, Mt. Lavinia, Ratmalana, Moratuwa, Panadura, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Embilipitiya, Kandy, Katugastota, Matale, Kurunegala, Paduwasnuwara and Anuradhapura. Each bed kit valued at Rs. 2,000 will consist of one mat, a mosquito net, a pillow with two pillow cases, three pairs of shorts, two T-shirts, a sarong for boys, one skirt for girls and a flask. The distribution of these bed kits will commence on June 10 and will continue up to June 20. A four member team from SCAW Canada is due to arrive in Sri Lanka to participate in the distribution. |
