Korea strongly supports the Sri Lankan Government's sincere efforts to achieve lasting peace in the country said Shin Hyun-Suk, Minister of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka. He was presiding over a meeting held in Kiriella, Ratnapura to mark the distribution of food and other relief among flood victims in the area by the Korean Businessmen's Association in Sri Lanka recently. Ratnapura district MP Mahinda Ratnatilleke was also present on the occasion. Hyun-Suk said: "On behalf of the Korean Embassy, I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathies to the villagers of the Ratnapura region who suffered great losses in the disastrous floods this month. I also extend my condolences to the villagers who lost members of their families in the tragedy. "The Korean businessmen and staff of the Korean Embassy came here today to share your sorrow and also to provide some assistance which we hope will help you overcome the difficulties you are now facing. "This assistance consists of contributions made by the members of the Korean Businessmen's Association and Korean families who are friends of the Sri Lankan people. I wish to note my sincere appreciation of this kind gesture. "I would also like to thank Mr. E. G. Yoon, Chairman of Y. International which is based in this area, for his efforts to organise today's ceremony. I hope that Y. International and its employees continue to benefit from its business activities in the years ahead. "The Korean Government has delivered a substantial amount of relief aid to the Sri Lankan Government in view of the flood disaster. "Korea is Sri Lanka's largest investor and also one of its chief donor countries. Sri Lanka and Korea co-operate very closely in the international fora and I am sure that Korea and Korean businessmen will always be with you in bad times as well as in good times. This assistance I hope demonstrates the goodwill and friendship of the Korean people towards the people of Sri Lanka. "I wish flood and landslide victims strength in overcoming the present difficulties to return to normal peaceful life very soon," Minister Hyun-Suk, said. |
