President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has always maintained that the highest honour Sri Lankans could pay their war heroes is to rise above differences such as political, religious and communal and live together in peace, the Presidential Secretariat states in a release to mark War Heroes' Day. It said: "June 7 is Sri Lanka War Heroes' Day. Three years ago President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga declared this day as one when Sri Lankans stop and remember their own War Heroes, those gone missing in action, those who lost their limbs and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives for the Nation." |
