Resumption of direct talks vital for compromise-G.L.

The government said yesterday that it agrees in principle with the LTTE
proposal for an Interim Structure for the North and East.
PM to receive Asian Hero award in Japan
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe who was selected as an Asian Hero
by the prestigious Time magazine for his role in the Sri Lankan peace
process will be conferred with the award on June 11 after the donor
conference in Tokyo.

The delegation of diplomats from the European Union countries yesterday
emphasised the importance of establishing joint Government LTTE structures
to plan and manage the necessary assistance programmes with regard to the
reconstruction and development of the North East.
LTTE seeks draft framework on interim structure

LTTE chief peace negotiator Anton Balasingham on Wednesday wrote to
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe rejecting the Government proposed apex
body for North-East development, but expressed willingness to resume talks
on a draft framework for an interim administrative structure for
North-East reconstruction and rehabilitation.
