Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Downer arrived in Sri Lanka last afternoon on his way back from the Middle East and was received at the Katunayake International Airport by Minister Assisting Foreign Affairs, Lal Dharmapriya Gamage. Downer, met Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe at Temple Trees last evening.

Norway, Japan intensify moves to revive peace talks

Japan and Norway have begun discussions at the highest level to revive the stalled peace bid in Sri Lanka, diplomatic sources said yesterday.

162,800 families affected by floods

According to the latest figures, 250 persons have been killed in the floods while completely destroying 25,534 houses. The number of families affected by the floods is 162,818, Social Welfare Ministry Secretary Vijayalakshmi Jegarasasingam said.
