Two tops teams in battle for Q-final berths The last three pre-quarter finals of the Sharp FA Cup will be played today and tomorrow. In two of these games Sri Lanka's two top teams Premier League Champs and runners-up Negombo Youth SC and Police are pitted against Old Joes SC and York SC Kandy respectively. These two games were to be played few weeks ago had to be postponed due to rains. In the other game at Kalutara Air Force take on Blue Star SC, Kandy York SC and Police match is scheduled to kick-off at Bogambara Stadium today while the NYSC and Old Joes game is scheduled to kick-off at 4.30 p.m. at Anuradhapura Stadium. York SC from Kandy has reached this stage after a long lapse are sure to give its best against the high riding Police team in this game. Police who missed the Premier League Championship by a margin of six points are confident of entering the quarters. Negombo Youth SC who received the Premier title a few days ago will not find things hard for them. But Old Joes with the advantage playing on their home grounds could pose a threat to last year's runners-up of the Sharp FA Cup. Already with five leading teams qualifying for the quarters this stage could provide top class soccer, while some upsets too could come off in the next round with the elimination of strong teams. The tournament conducted by Football Federation of Sri Lanka and sponsored by Brown & Company the Marketeers for Sharp products have produced exciting soccer fare up to now. More is due in the future. |
