The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) jointly conducting investigations into the Orugodawatte incident where a 13-year-old girl was alleged to have been chained and detained in a house at Orugodawatte, Grandpass, yesterday arrested the main suspect 'Army Malli' who is alleged to have set fire to two Police Motorcycles and pelted stones at a sergeant. The suspect was produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate R. Dissanayake and remanded till April 30.
Chief Inspector D.S. Jayasinghe, OIC, Grandpass Police said that 13 more suspects including a woman are to be arrested in connection with the incident.
A special unit was set up by Inspector General of Police T. E. Anandarajah on the directive of Interior and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga to inquire into the incident. The CID was directed to probe the violence in Orugodawatte.
Four policemen who are alleged to have been involved in the incident were interdicted with immediate effect.
