SB, GL call on Asgiriya Mahanayaka Thera

by D. Oliver Silva, Indika Polkotuwa and Thilak Pushpakumara

If one's political party does not serve the country and its people, there is nothing wrong in joining another party which is dedicated to the cause of the masses. In that context, the intelligent decision taken by the team of Ministers including S.B. Dissanayake and Prof. G.L. Peiris has the blessings of the Mahasangha.

So said the Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha Mahanayake Thera, the Chief Prelate of Asgiriya Chapter, Sri Daladamaligawa, Kandy, when a group of Ministers including S.B. Dissanayake, Prof. G.L. Peiris, Mahinda Wijesekera and Bandula Gunawardena called on the Venerable Mahanayaka Thera, after paying homage before the Sacred Tooth Relic last morning.

The group of ministers who joined the UNP rank and file lately are a hard working set of people who are useful to the country and who fully well understand the ethics of moving with the people. The efforts that are being taken by them under the leadership of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, for the benefit of the people, are praiseworthy, observed the Mahanayaka Thera. With the blessings of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the co-operation of the masses may the Ministers have the opportunity to solve most of the people's problems, if not all, wished the Venerable Mahanayaka Thera.

Addressing the Venerable Mahanayaka Thera, Samurdhi, Agriculture and Livestock Minister S.B. Dissanayake said that during the last one year and five months the war ravaged country of ours has revived to some extent with the peace process. We are moving forward to build an atmosphere of peace for the future generation, without dividing the country. The global super powers have pledged support to rebuild our collapsed economy.

The blessings and guidance we receive from the Mahasangha of this hallowed abode of the Sacred Tooth Relic, we do accept with great veneration, observed the Minister.

UNP General Secretary Senarath Kapukotuwa, Kandy Mayor Kesara Senanayake, Kandy MMC Raja Pushpakumara, Telecom.Chairman Thilanga Sumathipala and Yatinuwara UNP Organizer Gemunu Abeysundera were present on the occasion.
