Andaradeniya Estate (Pvt) Company has modernised the Batuwangala tea factory increasing the capacity from 10,000 kilograms to 20,000 kilograms. It has also installed modern machinery under the productivity increasing program. About 80 acres of abandoned lands in the area for many years had been bought by this company and developed with growing tea. As a result of the launching of the productivity increasing program successfully the company was able to provide over 200 employment opportunities for youth in the area. Here the modernised Batuwangala tea factory and a part of the newly grown tea lands.

Calling Party Pay scheme to hit land phone users

While mobile phone users in the country are eagerly awaiting the implementation of the Calling Party Pay scheme from this month, land phone users are perturbed as they will be called upon to pay additional charges for calling mobile phones.
