International Cricket Council (ICC) President Malcolm Gray hands over the ICC Champions Trophy to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who opened the 12-nation cricket tournament at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday while Sports Minister Johnston Fernando, ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed and Interim Committee Chairman Hemaka Amarasuriya look on. Commends government for peace moves, fiscal reforms: IMF predicts 4 per cent growth in economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its latest report on Sri Lanka issued yesterday predicted an economic growth of 3.5 per cent to 4 percent by end of 2002.

Over Rs. 4.2 m worth wooden sleepers lying idle at Port

Over Rs. 4.25 million worth of wooden sleepers imported by the Railways Department from Australia last December, are now lying idle at the Colombo Port causing great inconvenience and a loss to the Ports Authority, official sources told the Daily News yesterday.
