PA veteran to support 19th Amendment

People's Alliance veteran and former Minister Richard Pathirana has confirmed his support for the 19th Amendment which seeks to curb Presidential powers, a senior PA parliamentarian told the Daily News last night.

He however rejected government claims of mass defections in support of the Amendment adding that many would-be defectors have had second thoughts after consultations with the president.

"Yes, Richard confessed to me this morning that he will be voting with the government but few would follow him from the PA," the parliamentarian said.

Meanwhile, former Minister Richard Pathirana had told confidantes that he would join the United National Party if any attempt was made to strip him of the PA membership.
