The government is confident of a landslide victory at the three Provincial Council elections to be held in September, Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said. The minister was addressing a ceremony at Galgamuwa in Kurunegala to declare open Damsopura electricity project which will benefit about 400 families was built at a cost of Rs 21.5 million.

He observed that President Mahinda Rajapaksa's government has made an unprecedented contribution to the development of the country in post independence Sri Lanka. He noted that it is for the first time in history, the entire country's road network has been upgraded.

Minister Anura Yapa said said the government will not halt the massive development projects taking place in the country under any circumstance.

He observed that a certain opposition MP who considers himself an economic expert is deliberately trying to mislead the people by making false predictions that the country's economy is in trouble. The minister observed that contrary to these views held by the so called economist, the IMF and the Word Bank have praised and are satisfied with the performances of the government.

He observed that this MP, who is disturbed by the outstanding performance of the government, attempts to discredit it. The people would provide a fitting response at the polls to those making false allegations against the government.
