Army recover explosives, weapons in North and East

Sri Lanka Army personnel recovered a haul of explosives and weapons during search operations conducted in the Northern and Eastern Provinces through the week from June 17 to 23.

The Sri Lanka Army Media Unit states troops conducted search operations in Wannivillamkulam, Karayamulliwaikkal, Vilathikullam, Palamoddai, Marandamadu, Kokkuthuduwai, Pulmudai 13th mile, Pulmudai, Kumulamunai, Kombawil, Wahalkada, Omanthai, Ampakamam, Murusamuddai, Kokawil, Kalaweddiudal, Gautharamunai, Nandukadal Lagoon, Padani, Illuppakaddaweli, Wellamulliwaikkal, Ramagala and Mullaitivu areas in the Northern Province.

Search operations were also conducted in the Kanchikudichchiaru, Anawillandankullam, Akkarayankullam, Kolawil and Kuchchaweli areas in the Eastern Province.

Army personnel recovered one 122 mm artie ammunition, 603 anti-personnel bombs, one claymore bomb, two 120 mm mortar bombs,15 81 mm mortar bombs,12 60 mm mortar bombs, three 40 mm mortar bombs, five RPG bombs, 36 hand grenades, one land mine, one T-56 gun, one T-97 gun,one T-97 magazine, 103 12.7 mm ammunition,250 T-56 ammunition,395 7.62*39 mm ammunition, 25 7.62*51 mm ammunition,19 MPMG ammunition,19 weapon parts, one 122mm projectile, 58 parts of 81mm mortar bombs, 163 kilogrammes of ammunition rounds, 7,000 kilogrammes of iron boxes used to store artie ammunition and 15 m of detonator wire during their operations.

Army personnel, on information provided by civilians also recovered 33 60 mm mortar bomb.
