Old Cambrian and Air Force cricketer Nimal Cooray dies

Former Prince of Wales’ College and Air Force cricketer Nimal Cooray
died after a brief illness and he is 69 years of age.
He had his entire education at Prince of Wales and played for the
Under-12, 14, 16 and First Eleven cricket teams and captained the Second
Eleven team.
He played under Roy Cooray for the First Eleven in 1960/61 and played
for the 1961 Big Match. In addition he played for the soccer team.
He joined the then Royal Ceylon Air Force and represented in all
three Divisions and captained the Division III and II teams. He was a
member of the Division II in 1965/66 which won the Donavan Andree Trophy
and continued to play in the Sara Trophy tournament till his retirement
in 1985.
When Methodist High School recommenced playing cricket in 1999 he
coached them for about a decade free-of-charge.
His remains lie at 78/9, Laxapathiya Road, Moratuwa and the cortege
leaves residence for burial at 4 pm on May 28 at the Rawatawatte
