ESCAP Survey 2012 launched today

The 2012 edition of the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will be launched today in Colombo at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) at Independence Avenue, Colombo 7 at 9.30 a.m.

The flagship publication of the ESCAP - the regional arm of the United Nations - provides policy options for governments to overcome the short and medium-term challenges and maintain the pursuit of inclusive and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.

A persistent concern for the region highlighted in the 2012 Survey is the challenge presented by commodity price volatility, in particular the trend of rising commodity prices. International Monetary Cooperation Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama will be the Chief Guest at the launch which will be attended by UNDP Resident Representative Subinay Nandy, IPS Chairman Prof. W.D. Lakshman, IPS Executive Director Dr. Saman Kelegama and many more leading economists.
