Navy rescues man from drowning in Kalu Ganga

Sri Lanka Navy's Rapid Response Rescue and Release Squadron (4Rs) rescued a person from drowning in Kalu Ganga at Kalutara on May 2. The man aged 56, a resident of Waskaduwa, had fallen into the river from the Kalutara Railway Bridge.

The Navy set-up the 4Rs to provide life saving and relief assistance during natural disasters such as floods, rough sea conditions etc. The squadron consists Naval personnel specialised in disaster management and craft especially designed for its operations.

4Rs has a number of achievements to its credit within a short period since its inception. It saved the life of a student drowning in Kala Wewa on February 5, 2012 and a woman who tried to commit suicide on December 17, 2011.
